AT-KABUL: Amid escalation of violence in Nangarhar, members of the Parliament on Tuesday said that Pakistan supported 20 active extremist groups in the eastern province.
In a gathering, parliamentarians voiced their concerns over a rise in extremist groups in most parts of Nangarhar. The representatives of Nangarhar declared that the Islamic State terrorist movements had intensified and the government’s military strategy had faltered in subduing them.
The Ministry of Interior, however, dismissed the claims, saying Afghan security forces were struggling to beef up security in Nangarhar and that the government’s counterterrorism strategy had not been counterproductive.
Nangarhar has witnessed deadly incidents in the recent months, for most of which Daeshhas taken responsibility.
