MPs seek evidences from deputy speaker over allegations against NSC

Abdul Zuhoor Qayomi-KABUL: Reacting to the recent allegations of the first deputy speaker of the Wolesi Jirga (WJ) against the National Security Council (NSC), the lawmakers on Wednesday asked Abdul Zahir Qadeer to present evidence to prove the allegations.

The deputy speaker Abdul Zahir Qadeer recently alleged the NSC of supporting Daesh, also known as the Islamic State. The high-ranking government officials have termed the allegations baseless and asked the Wolesi Jirga’s deputy speaker to present evidence.

Putting their weight behind the National Unity Government (NUG), the MPs asked the deputy speaker to provide evidence to prove the allegations.

Criticizing the deputy speaker, the member of Defense Committee, Lalai Hameedzai, said that if Abdul Zahir has any proof, indicating the support for Daesh by the government, then he must present it.

He said that if the deputy speaker had no evidence then he had to restrain from leveling such baseless allegations. “Daesh is an international project. Therefore, the first deputy speaker must not give such statements.”

Abdul Satar Darzabi, an MP from Jawzjan, asked his colleagues for support to the government, saying that the NUG was established by the lawmakers and citizens.

“As a member of the Wolesi Jirga, I also played role in formation of the current government. I condemn Abdul Zahir for leveling such allegations against the government. The MPs shall put aside their differences and work for development of the country,” he said.

Jamal Fakori Beheshti, an MP from Bamyan, said the allegations are a matter of serious concern. He asked the deputy speaker to bring evidence if he is right. He suggested summoning of the relevant officials to explain the realities in a general plenary, adding that if the allegations proved baseless then Abdul Zahir had to restrain from giving “such irresponsible statements” that could destroy the country.

The deputy speaker said that he does not want militancy or to form a militia force, but he led the public uprisings against Daesh and other terrorist groups as a mujahid.

He said the government would face serious and unique public uprisings and protests if it failed to overcome the growing insecurity.
