AT-KABUL: Some members of parliament strongly condemned the lawless acts carried out by supports of a former jihadi commander Ahmad Shah Massoud oan his death anniversary.
People belonging to a certain group took to the streets on Sunday to commemorate Massoud’s 17th death anniversary, by driving cars, motorcycles and even bicycles fast, firing in the air and causing panic in the Kabul city.
“On Sunday, we heard some undue and wrong fires and this act is actually disregard to the martyrs of Afghanistan and against their goals. This act was far from logic and the parliament condemns it,” said parliament speaker, Abdul RaoufEbrahimi on Monday session.
13 Kabul residents were injured by these air shootings, according to the ministry of public health.
Kabul residents call such shootings just to cause panic.
Supports of Massoud carry out such wrong things every year on the occasion of his death anniversary.
Videos went viral from Sunday’s illogical acts showing young boys holding machine guns and firing in the air and sometimes targeting portraits of senior government officials including President Ashraf Ghani.
Parliamentarians called on security organs to seriously investigate Sunday’s illegal firings.
“Which religion allows us to tease the people on the martyrs’ day, to kill and injure people and spark panic in the city? The government should investigate this issue that why was Kabul witnessing firings on Sunday? We experience this every year. How long should people tolerate this? People have God, a number of thugs are not the lords of people,” said Amir Khan Yar, a member of parliament.
Police say they have arrested 150 people in connection to the illegal firings, confiscating 20 weapons and 30 vehicles.
NosratRahimi, a spokesman for the interior ministry said the arrested would face legal punishment and would be referred to judiciary after police’s investigations were over.
