Abdul Zuhoor Qayomi-KABUL: The Ministry of Urban Development Affairs (MUDA) on Tuesday assured people with average income of affordable housing schemes in the near future.
Minister of Urban Development Affairs, Sayed Saadat Naderi, acknowledged that no poor-friendly housing project was initiated in the past 13 years.
While briefing news reporters on his 100-day action plan, he said that the apartments built in the past decade were expensive and could not be purchased by people with average income.
“The ministry has planned to start work on new housing projects where common people can buy residential apartments on long-term installments. An apartment will cost $15,000 to $25000. The buyer will have to pay the installments within 15 to 25 years,” he said.
The minister said that private companies would be encouraged to build residential complexes where those who are not well-to-do could buy apartments.
He said that completion of different housing projects including Khushal Khan, first phase of Qasaba, 15th block of Macroyan, and the United Arab Emirates townships are parts of the 100-day action plan.
Speaking about anti-corruption efforts, he said that documents of all developmental projects would be assessed. “Cases of six high-ranking officials of the ministry, accused of corruption, were referred to the Attorney General Office,” he added.
The minister said that grabbing of the state-owned lands, lack of urban rules and planning, and poor coordination among the relevant organizations were major challenges in last 13 years.
He said that the ministry has drafted a comprehensive plan to resolve the existing problems.
