AT-KABUL: The Nejat-e-Mili Party, led by the ex-president and Jihadi leader Sebghatullah Mujadidi, criticized the government for providing legal immunity and privileges to Gulbuddin Hekmayar, but supported the peace deal with the Hezb-e-Islami Afghanistan (HIA).
According to a report of the Voice of America (VOA), the Nejat-e-Mili Party expressed serious concerns over the government’s decision to provide immunity to and privileges to the HIA leader Hekmatyar.
Secretary of the party Zabihullah Mujadidi said that only people of Afghanistan have the right to provide legal immunity to a person or a party.
He said that his party is not against participation of the HIA in peace process, but oppose legal immunity to Hekmatyar. “Nejat-e-Mili Party supports any steps taken to bring peace,” he added.
Nejat-e-Mili Party believes that the HIA has lost its military power, thus, participation of Hezb-e-Islami in peace process won’t have positive impact on the security situation.
