AT-KABUL: The 23rd Mujahideen’s Victory Day was celebrated at the Presidential Palace (Arg) on Saturday.
President Ashraf Ghani, the Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, ex-President Hamid Karzai and prominent Jihadi leaders including Abdul Rab Rasul Sayyaf attended the ceremony. Back in 1992, the Soviet Union was defeated by Mujahideen.
President Ghani commended the brave resistance of Mujahideen against the Soviet Union, and said that Afghans sacrificed, millions of them were martyred, wounded and migrated during the holy Jihad against the Soviet Union. “Afghanistan is the land of brave people and Jihad, where we have recorded three times of Jihad in the history. The war against the then USSR brought independence to other nations as well,” he said.
He stated that during three times of Jihad, the Afghan people were united; however, political elements failed to maintain unity among them. “Today, we are owners of a democratic system and a Constitution which guarantee durable stability in the country,” he noted.
He highlighted that unity is the most important factor for social stability, and currently Afghanistan needs to cross the caves and achieve its goals of coordination and unity. “We should join hands together and bring lasting peace and stability in the country,” he mentioned.
He said that international terrorism wants to impede future stability in the country and terrorists want to mar governance system in the region and the world to achieve their nefarious end. “They misuse the name of the holy religion of Islam by beheading people and destroying their houses, but fortunately the international community and the world has supported the stance that says terrorists and terrorism are not representing the holy religion of Islam,” he added.
He praised religious scholars, who recently took stance against extremism and terrorism and slammed militant activities.
He admired Afghan forces for strongly resistance and fighting face-to-face against terrorists, and said, “Our stance is accordance with teachings of Islam, which say those who were faced with war and cruelty are allowed to fight and the Almightily Allah will support them.”
He said Islam encourages its followers towards peace and kindness thus Muslims are not war lovers. “We love peace and we believe in peace and we struggle to achieve it. Nationwide peace can guarantee lasting stability in the country,” he asserted.
The president stressed that the National Unity Government (NUG) is committed to fill the gap between mosques and the Presidential Palace. “We will get advises of Jihadi leaders in governance affairs and decision making on political issues,” he vowed.
On the same occasion, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah said that Mujahideen rendered sacrifices for more than a decade and fought against invaders, thus they deserve respect.
He said the gap between the government and the people should be removed and relations between these two should be bridged in a bid to gain more success in different fields.
He called on all cabinet members to implement their commitments in order to overcome the current problems, because the government will not succeed until there is commitment, unity and coordination.
Praising Mujahiden’s victory, prominent Jihadi leader, Abdul rab Rasoul Sayyaf, said the victory is belonged to all Afghans. “I hope that after this we celebrate our victories, our successes and our achievements, and step towards a brighter future,” he said.
He said Mujahideen should not be used only for war; they should be given role in other fields as well, including development. “Today’s respect and honor of Afghans and Afghanistan are because of Jihad and Mujahideen. They should not be given symbolic role,” he added.
Criticizing a number of recent comments on Mujahideens and Jihad in Afghanistan, he called on the government to not allow small groups to insult Mujahideen because Mujahideen are the force that have stood and are still standing against any terrorist group and those who kill people including Daesh and al-Qaeda.
He nudged the government to remove the distance between mosques and the Arg, fight against immorality and endemic corruption in public offices, and bring the nation together.
