Abdul Zuhoor Qayomi-KABUL: The Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) said Monday that the death of Mullah Omar has dealt a heavy blow to the morale of the Taliban. Speaking at a joint press conference with the Deputy Spokesman of the Ministry of Defense (MoD) in Kabul on Monday, Siddiq Siddiq the spokesman of the Interior Ministry said the death of Mullah Omar has left serious implications of the morale of the Taliban whereas the morale of the Afghan National Security Forces have gone many notches higher. He said the death of Mullah Omar in a foreign land has divested the Taliban movement of the justification of their war. Siddiqi said warned those who are fighting against the government that their fate will not be any different from their leader Mullah Omar. He said that Afghan security forces have the capacity to put them to route and they will sink without trace. Responding to a query, Siddiqi said that only a few people (ex-Taliban members) mourned the death of Mullah Omar, in Kabul, whereas majority of the people have celebrated his death but tacitly. “Mullah Omar was a murderer of Afghans,” he said. Siddiqi commended the security gains by the Afghan National Security Forces and added that 20 insurgents were killed in 12 search operations in different provinces carried by Afghan National Police independently during the past 24 hours. The Ministry of Defense (MoD) claimed on Monday to have foiled Taliban’s strategic plans by conducting a number of key security operations in different parts of the country. The Deputy Spokesman of MoD, Dawlat Waziri said there has been a 40 percent improvement in security across the country as a result of the military operations. He said the Taliban amid the second round of peace negotiations were planning to carry out sabotage activities in different provinces however their plans were forestalled. He said the morale of security forces has been gaining strength since June 13 after putting the Taliban to route in different districts. He said they have ramped up security operations in districts of Faryab, Uruzgan, Kunduz, Takhar, Khost and Nangarhar where they have gained major successes. Waziri said that eight Taliban insurgents were killed and 38 others received injuries in the operations carried out during the past 24 hours. “The Afghan National Security Forces, Afghan National Police and National Directorate of Security (NDS) jointly launched the operations,” he said. Waziri appreciated the role of the First-Vice President Gen. Abdul Rasheed Dostum in Faryab. This is worth mentioning that Gen. Dostum has been staying around in Faryab and Jawzjan for the last one week in north to boost up the morale of the security forces who are currently engaged in a stiff resistance against the Taliban. The operations in the north are being led by the Chief of Staff.
