AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The former intelligence chief Rahmatullah Nabil endorsed President Ashraf Ghani’s stance against Pakistan in the Heart of Asia conference.
Ghani on Sunday blasted Pakistan for exporting terror and providing safe hideouts to the militants. In his address at the 6th annual conference of Heart of Asia in India, Ghani said that the Taliban insurgency would not survive a month if it lost its sanctuary in neighboring Pakistan, urging its neighbor to take on militant groups on its soil instead of giving Kabul financial aid. Ghani believed the $500 million promised by Pakistan for Afghanistan’s reconstruction could be better utilized combating terrorism.
“I support government’s recent position against Pakistan. Ghani’s rejection of Pakistani’s double-faced policy is a positive step, in not tolerable,” Nabil said in his Twitter account.
Nabil resigned in December 2015 shortly after issuing an unusual statement, slamming Pakistan for supporting the anti-government elements in Afghanistan and criticizing President Ghani for his approach.
Nabil released several confidential documents by obtained by Afghan intelligence to prove the country’s role in the ongoing violence in the country.
“We have enough evidences that Pakistan backs all terrorist groups under the name of Haqqani network or for that matter Lashkar-e-Tayyaba. We arrested the brother of Siraj Haqqani who confessed that he was living in Murree, close to Islamabad. They have safe havens in cities, not just in rural areas. Hafiz Saeed holds gatherings in cities. There is no doubt that Pakistan and Daesh is supporting these terrorists.” Nabil said in an interview with the NewsX earlier October.
