AT News Report-KABUL: A large number of people in the eastern province of Nangarhar took to streets Saturday to protest the “likely electoral fraud”. Protestors called on the independent election commission to guarantee a “one hundred per cent transparent election”.
The legislative and district council elections are to be held on October 20.
“If the government does not give a positive answer to us, we have other programs for the future,” Malek Alem, one of the protestors warned. “We want election, we want transparency. No treason and no betrayal are acceptable.”
Meanwhile, a member of the grand national coalition (a group of opposition parties), Hazrat Ali, warned the people would continue protesting until they get sure about the electoral transparency.
“We demand the international community, the government and the election commission to provide chance for a transparent election with the people’s cooperation,” Ali said.
Separately, some civil society members in the Jalalabad city, the provincial capital, asked for a timely election.
People in Nangarhar had staged demonstrations earlier and warned the government against a fraudulent election.
