AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The NATO-led Resolute Support (RS) mission has strongly condemned attack on the Attorney General Office (AGO) compound in Mazar-i-Sharif city of northern Balkh province.
The NATO headquarters said in a statement on Friday that the Headquarters Resolute Support strongly condemns the Taliban attack in Mazar-i-Sharif on an Afghan court facility that left several dead and injured.
“Today, the Taliban struck a court in Mazar-i-Sharif killing and wounding innocent Afghans,” said Brig. Gen. Wilson Shoffner, Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications. “Once again, the Taliban has displayed their complete contempt for the safety of Afghan civilians.”
Victims of the attack included police, prosecutors, court staff, women and children. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
“On behalf of General Campbell, Headquarters Resolute Support expresses its condolences to the families of those killed and wounded in today’s attack. We remain committed to assisting our Afghan partners in achieving sustainable security and stability,” the statement added.
At least ten people were killed and around seventy others were wounded after a group of the Taliban insurgents stormed the attorney’s office at 11:30am on Thursday.
According to local security officials, the attack was launched by four insurgents who were all killed following clashes which lasted for almost eight hours.
