KABUL: The government has praised the NATO commitment to continue assistance for the Afghan security forces, with acting finance minister saying Sunday that all concerns over cutting NATO assistance to the security forces after 2020 would be resolved.
Mohammad Homayoun Qayyoumi told reporters in Kabul that NATO-member countries once again promised in Brussels to continue their help to the Afghan army and police after 2020.
“In a Brussels meeting, all the NATO-member countries mentioned their continued financial support for the Afghan forces. They expressed happiness about the recent developments in Afghanistan, emphasizing to keep supporting the national security forces up to 2024 and beyond that,” Qayyoumi said.
The Afghan forces’ annual budget has been estimated five billion dollars paid by the United States and its allies in NATO.
NATO Chief, Jens Stoltenberg said that donor states would inject nearly three billion dollars to the Afghan security forces’ fund up to May 15th.
He added that the fund would remain open for further international donations.
Qayyoumi said that the government accelerated economic programs for economic self-sufficiency.
“We have several packages for self-sufficiency and its first one is 8.7 billion dollar for agriculture and 1.3 billion dollars for energy sector.”
