AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The NATO’s Resolute Support Mission on Monday announced to deploy about 200 troops in western Farah province in order to support the Afghan security forces.
“At the request of the Farah governor, Gen. John Nicholson has authorized approximately 200 coalition members to support Afghan National Defense and Security Forces,” the Resolute Support said in a statement.
“The troops, mainly Italian, would conduct their train, advice and assist mission for approximately one week on location,” the statement added.
This comes as on Friday, Pentagon announced to send some 300 marines to Helmand province in the upcoming months to support Afghan security forces.
It is worth mentioning that Taliban insurgents had tried their best to capture several districts of the Farah province, but the militants faced the iron hand of the Afghan security forces.
During last year spring offensive, the Taliban insurgents had captured Nawbahar, which was situated 12 kilometers northwest of Farah city. But, however, security forces pushed them back.
