Abdul Zuhoor Qayomi-KABUL: Condemning the recent statement of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, members of the Meshrano Jirga on Sunday said that the statement shows true face of Pakistan.
Reaction of the Meshrano Jirga members or senators came in the wake of the recent statement of Nawaz Sharif, who told the US Institute of Peace in Washington that the Afghan government should end operations against the insurgents if wanted Pakistan to revive the peace talks. The Pakistani premier said that he could not tell the Taliban to sit at the negotiations table with Afghan officials and be killed at the same time.
Afghan senators said that Nawaz Sharif lied because it was Islamabad influencing the Taliban and encouraging the militant movement to launch large-scale attacks against the Afghan government. They said the Afghan government should not trust Pakistan.
Faisal Sami, a senator from Baghlan, said that Sharif’s statement is a powerful slap on the face of the National Unity Government (NUG) which sought peace through Islamabad and comprised many things.
Sami said that he had told the government months ago that it is going in the wrong direction in the quest for peace.
Chief of the Defense Committee of Meshrano Jirga, Nader Baloch, said the US is seeking its own interests, but Afghans are killed.

Nesar Haris, a member of the International Relations Committee, said that Pakistan does not want to support the peace process.
He said that Kabul should never expect help from Islamabad in the peace process.
Secretary of Meshrano Jirga, Najeeba Hussaini, termed Sharif’s visit to the United States effective for Pakistan. She said that Afghans hoped the US would pressurize Nawaz to end supporting the Taliban, but the hopes were dashed to the ground.
“Therefore, the government must improve security and bring peace while standing at a position of strength,” she said.
Chairman of the Meshrano Jirga, Fazul Hadi Muslimyar, also said that Afghanistan has never asked Pakistan to dismantle the Taliban because it is Islamabad supporting the militants.
He said that Pakistan is involved in killings of Afghans. Islamabad lies and Washington is part of it.
Putting his weight behind the new initiate of the Afghan government to build a regional consensus against the Taliban, Daesh and terrorism supporters, he said the government should garner support in the region to fight extremism and terrorism.
President Ashraf Ghani recently stressed on creating a regional consensus against terrorism. Ghani said that he is trying to form a regional consensus to include regional countries in the war against terrorism, except Pakistan.
Recently, the deputy spokesman to the president, Sayed Zafar Hashemi, has said that Kabul would talk with those Afghan Taliban who will renounce violence accept the constitution of Afghanistan.
He said that fight against those who are listening to their foreign masters would continue.
