AT-KABUL: The National Directorate of Security (NDS) on Tuesday said that three abductors were arrested, planning to kidnap a police officer’s son in Kabul city.
Intelligence operatives arrested the kidnappers who were residents of Tarakhel village, Deh Sabz district through an operation in the police district 15 of Kabul city, it said in a statement.
“The abductors were identified as Noor Karim, Syed Azatullah and Hizbullah, who planned to abduct the boy and demand one million Afghanis from his family,” the statement said.
Two Kalashnikov machineguns and a car were sized from kidnappers, the statement noted.
Kidnapping and taking hostage have become a common occurrence in Afghanistan following the U.S. invasion in 2001. Kidnappers include Taliban and Al-Qaeda fighters and common criminal elements.
Unknown gunmen had earlier kidnapped an Australian employee of a non-governmental organization in the capital, Kabul in earlier this month.
The 6-year-old Naveed was kidnapped a month ago from Police District 3 of the Farah province and kidnappers demanded ransom $100,000, but intelligence freed him before his family gave the money.
