AT-KABUL: The National Directorate of Security (NDS) foiled a major terror attack on the Ministry of Defense (MoD).
According to a media statement issued by the NDS on Thursday, the spy agency foiled the coordinated terror attack by arresting five suicide bombers linked with Haqqani Network. The would-be bombers were arrested in Deh Sabz area of Kabul.
Two out of the five bombers were identified as Shah Muhammad alias Shafeeq and Sher Agha alias Noor Muhammad.
During interrogation the detained suicide bombers said that they were trained in Miran Shah, headquarters of North Waziristan. They confessed that they were tasked to target Ministry of Defense. They were sent to Kabul by Bilal, a member of Haqqani Network who plans terror attacks on Afghan security forces.
One of the bombers wanted to detonate a vehicle full of 250kg explosive materials (RDX-HMS) where military officers are gathered. Another terrorist was tasked to detonate suicide vest. The remaining three others were equipped with automatic weapons and bombs and planned to enter into the defense ministry building once the way was clear.
The NDS said that explosives recovered from the suicide bombers have been exploded in Deh Sabz.
