By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: The defense ministry said Wednesday the second phase of the Shafaq military operation would begin soon to eliminate Taliban’s threats and clear districts from insurgents across the country.
“Afghan forces will struggle to clear Taliban from collapsed districts and rebuff insurgents threats in critical areas across the country,” ministry’s spokesman Dawlat Waziri said.
He said that the first phase of Shafaq continue successfully and through this operation Afghan forces incurred heavy casualties to Taliban in different provinces throughout the country.
He said that International Community also will submit 700 new armored vehicles, which will be a supportive step at the threshold of beginning of next phase of Shafaq.
While pointing to achievements of Afghan forces, General Waziri said that war in Afghanistan is not only Taliban war, this is an intelligence war at the level of region and world.
He said that Panjabi, Chechen, Uzbek, Uyghur and Arab fighters were in the frame of insurgents group in different part of the country, which Afghan forces bravely fought against them and suppressed in different provinces.
He stated that Afghan forces jointly conducted hundreds of combat crackdown against Taliban fighters, which through thousands of Taliban killed and wounded in this year.
Over 5,500 armed rebels also arrested by Afghan forces during operations, he claimed.
He insisted that Taliban lost moral as well as will be failure in offensive.
Hinting to serious fighting against corruption in the ministry of defense, General Waziri said that Afs 7 billion was saved this year.
He said that the money saved after contracts revised and implemented transparently in the ministry.
