AT-KABUL: At least nine people – mostly civilians including kin of Wolesi Jirga Speaker – were killed and eight others wounded in an operation in eastern Nangarhar province last night, said officials.
Nangarhar Police Spokesman Hazrat Husain Mashriqiwal said that the operation was carried out by Afghan forces at 11:00 pm last night in Chaparhar district of Nangarhar.
Nangarhar Gubernatorial Spokesman Ataullah Khogiani said that nine people were killed and eight others wounded in raid on Chaparhar district. And a delegation has been dispatched to run an investigation into the incident.
Head of Provincial Refugee Office and Senate Chairman’s Cousin Ghulam Haidar said that most of the casualties were civilians including Muslimyar’s relatives. One local police commander, his two sons and two tribal chieftains died in the operation.
The incident occurred in Dawlatzai village – where there is no anti-government element and insurgent mostly the people are pro-government people, who are even under the target of Taliban and Daesh fighters.
Chaparhar district is tumultuous and fraught with militant movements, and Taliban and Islamic State combatants unrestrictedly target government officials and civilians.
