“Regional countries should join hands to save Afghanistan from current situation”
AT-KABUL: Former President Hamid Karzai lambasted Washington for dropping a BGU-43/B ‘mother of all bombs” the largest non-nuclear weapon in its arsenal – on Nangarhar province as an action that could never be forgiven, and said the US should leave Afghanistan.
Stressing that the Afghan people don’t allow foreigners to make any aggression against them, he said, “therefore, by its Thursday operations, the US has lost the legitimacy for any claims and it should leave Afghanistan.”
He added, “if the current situation continues, it would follow with no desirable future, and that’s why regional and neighboring countries should join hands in order to save Afghanistan from the current situation, reciprocally, we should also be cooperative with them.”
He furthered, “nearly two decade presence of US in Afghanistan not only sensational in bringing peace and stability, but rather by dropping of dangerous bomb has threatened physical and psychological health of a nation. Besides this, the problem of Durand Line between Kabul and Islamabad remained unresolved—Taliban has showed no willingness to start peace talks—cooperation of the regional countries to end current crisis was also not colorful, and in addition to that Constitutional Loya Jirga has not convened, the parliamentary election was also not held.”
Karzai during an interview with Fars News Agency expressed his views regarding several issues such as recent use of ‘mother of all bombs’ by US in Nangarhar on the pretext of destroying Daesh terrorists—the return of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the leader of Hezb-e-Islami Afghanistan—controversy created over the Durand Line between Kabul and Islamabad—the peace process of the National Unity Government with the Taliban, and its challenges—the capacity of the neighbors in its contribution towards peace and stability in the country, and also about the upcoming election.
Karzai believes that dropping of mother of all bombs in Nangarhar was an act of evil and violence against the people, soil, environment and the national sovereignty of Afghanistan, the presence of US as a country that creates fear and panic, is not for the goodwill of the nation.
Regarding controversy created between Afghanistan and Pakistan over Durand Line, Karzai said, “We would never acknowledge its legitimacy because Durand Line is a historical and inalienable right of the Afghan people, but that does not mean that we don’t want good relations with Pakistan.”
Regarding peace challenges between National Unity Government and Taliban, Karzai pointed out that the goals and objective of the outer world, especially America and Pakistan is to create obstacles towards peace in Afghanistan. Moreover, he warned that if US doesn’t cooperate in bringing peace, Afghanistan with its neighbors and powerful countries support would workaround for peace. Regarding US policy, Karzai said, “We and other nations who preserve dignity for themselves, would never give right for the foreigner to carry out attacks, Afghans are one nation, and has a home of their own, and should not be exploited by foreigners. Therefore, American by dropping bomb on Thursday has lost its legitimacy, and should leave our country.”
He believes that if US wants peace in Afghanistan, has to compatible with Moscow meeting in a bid to have Afghanistan and the region free from terrorisms.
Hamid Karzai by pointing out towards not holding of the Constitutional Loya Jirga, end of the National Unity Government agreement, and the future of the country, said, “Despite all our problems, and despite of a bomb that US collapsed on us and despite all the odds that we are affected with, the future of Afghanistan is bright, and the future is at hands of the youth, who is now more stronger, well-educated and more comprehensible.”
Regarding the outlook of security situation over the next five year, Karzai added that if the current situation continues, there would not be good future, and that’s why regional countries should join hands in removing current circumstances.
