‘All Afghan nation will defend from Durand line’
By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: Members of the Wolesi Jirga (Lower House) of Parliament on Monday came hard over remarks of Latif Pedram, the head of Congress Party of Afghanistan regarding the Durand Line, saying that no individual, group or ethnicity has the right to express views about its recognition.
Parliamentarians believed that Afghanistan had sacrificed hundreds of thousands of people to defend its territory (Afghanistan believes that the Pashtoon-populated areas across the line are parts of its territory), thus this line belonged to the Afghan nation and only Afghan nation can decide through Loya Jirga convention.
Pedram, who is also a representative from Badakhshan province in the parliament, said recently that he recognizes the Durand Line as an official border point between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
He persisted on recognition of the line as the official border betweenAfghanistan and Pakistan can help Afghanistan to solve part of current challenges.
“Durand line is a national issue and belongs to the nation of Afghanistan, no specific individual, group or ethnic has the right to take decision about Durand,” said Speaker of the Wolesi Jirga Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi.
He said that all Afghan nation can make decision in the aspect through Loya Jirga.
“Touching to such national issue is not at the favor of unity and national interest,” he added.
He called on all representative to avoid from such remarks that spark anger and tension.
Wolesi Jirga Member Mirbat Khan Mangal Afghanistan has sacrificed hundreds of thousands of youth to defend the Durand line and Oxus River, so no one has the right to express view about Durand.
Expressing view regarding Durand line will create rifts among Afghan nation, so those who toughing to the subject must be avoided.
No one is allowed to talk over Durand line, Oxus and Kunar Rivers, otherwise all Afghan nations will be stand against them, he asserted.
Female Legislator Aryan Yuon coming hard over Pedaram’s remarks said that those who express negative remarks about national interests must be listed as treacherous and dismiss from Wolesi Jirga.
