KABUL: Norway will convene a meeting of European and regional countries in Oslo mid-June to check if the Taliban have owned up to their promises on human rights. The meeting will be attended by high-level delegates from the West and regional powers, according to media.
Whether the Taliban will participate in the forum is not clear. But Pakistani media have reported that Pakistan’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani and its special envoy for Afghanistan Asif Ali Durrani will attend the Oslo forum.
The meeting scheduled for June 13-15 is expected to discuss status quo in Afghanistan and the Taliban’s promises made to the international community since the group seized power in August 2021.
It is believed this meeting will be the final push of the international community to find ways to continue interacting with the Taliban-run administration.
