AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The adviser of the chief executive, Fazil Sancharaki, said the National Unity Government (NUG) is responsible for the weak performance of the previous commissioners at the Independent Election Commission (IEC).
He said the NUG is aware of its errors and the poor performances of the former commissioners.
“The current problems are resulting inability of the commissioners who carried out the tasks and transparency was not observed by commissioners,” Sancharaki said.
However, officials from the presidential office claimed that there was a strong intention and political consensus to hold an election and bring reforms to the electoral process.
President’s deputy spokesman Shah Hussein Murtazawi said: “There are political consensus and a strong intention to reform the election system to hold the election,” Murtazawi said.
“We witnessed two parliamentary and three presidential elections since the new political chapter began, and all of them were remarkable lessons and experiences.”
There is an array of challenges to mounting a successful election, including the existence of 20 million voting cards, budget, insecurity, distrust of the people for the delay in holding an election and concerns about the transparency of any electoral contest.
