AT-The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Monday strongly condemned the suicide attack perpetrated on 20 October 2018 in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, resulting in dozens of causalities and injuries, at a time when the citizens were engaged in the voting process in the parliamentary elections.

The OIC Secretary General, Dr. Yousef Al Othaimeen, expressed his condolences to the Government and people of Afghanistan along with his best wishes of prompt recovery for the injured, OIC said in a statement.

According to the statement, the Secretary General also expressed the OIC’s full solidarity with Afghanistan and renewed his rejection of any action against the elections which, he noted with satisfaction, were taking place at their scheduled time with a large turnout of the electorate in spite of all threats.

Moreover, he called on all political parties and on the Afghani people to exercise restraint and self-control and let their national interests outweigh any personal benefits.

Moreover, after conclusion of election on Sunday, President Ashraf Ghani touted the high voter turnout of the Afghan masses in the long-delayed Wolesi Jirga election, where according the electoral body nearly four million people casted their vote in 32 provinces across the country.

In his address to the nation after polls concluded on Sunday, President Ghani thanked the Afghan security forces and public for not having surrendered to the insurgents.
