AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Minister of Interior on Wednesday vowed to introduce a broad range of reforms in the police force including amendment of the current police law to address the outstanding issues.
Addressing a press conference here in the capital city, Noorolhaq Olomi said that a technical and legal commission would be constituted in the coming weeks to reform the traffic and national police.
He said that loyalty, knowledge and experience would be top priorities of the ministry when recruiting police, adding that foreign military servicemen could also participate in the police reform process.
Speaking about the daunting traffic challenges in the country, the interior minister said that traffic situation in the metropolitans is a matter of grave concern for the ministry as well as costly. Olomi emphasized on standardization of police ranks.
Responding to a question, the minister accepted that several complaints have been received against cops regarding misuse of authority, abuse of rights, involvement in corruption, misbehavior with public and negligence in duty.
Commending the security forces, he said the government forces have the ability to defeat militants on every front.
Amid deteriorating security situation, defense affairs analysts urged the government repeatedly for police reforms.
