KABUL – A suicide attack near a near a vehicle belonging to Pakistani security forces in the Hayatabad area in the northwestern city of Peshawar killed one and injured seven others on Tuesday. The attack was claimed by Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan.
Reportedly, the target of this suicide attack was officials of the security forces. According to Pakistani police officials, the explosion targeted a vehicle belonging to the paramilitary Frontier Corps. The attacker was the only casualty, as security forces were able to prevent further loss of life. A high-ranking police official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, revealed that the injured victims were in stable condition.
Medical Director Professor Shehzad Akbar Khan of the Hayatabad Medical Complex confirmed that they received two wounded individuals from the incident, and both were reported to be in stable condition. The remaining injured were transported to another hospital, CMH, for treatment.
Pakistan’s concerns about militants finding safe havens in neighboring Afghanistan have escalated, with the country recently experiencing attacks resulting in the deaths of 12 soldiers. Last week, the same extremist group struck a military base in Balochistan, further highlighting the growing security challenges.
The militants who seek to overthrow the Pakistani government have been particularly active in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Their attacks intensified after the revocation of a ceasefire, which was followed by a bombing at a mosque in Peshawar earlier in the year, claiming the lives of over 100 innocent people.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and remain committed to thwarting such attacks to ensure the safety and security of the nation’s 220 million citizens.
