AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: At least 88 Taliban insurgents have been killed and 78 others received injures in the ongoing military operation carried out by the Afghan National Defense, and Security Forces in Imam Sahib district of northern Kunduz province, military officials said on Friday.
Operation Pamir-24 kicked off one week ago and was supported by the Afghan Air Force, said Sayed Qurban Musawi, Executive Officer of Pamir 20 Battalion in Kunduz.
“The Operation Pamir-14 is ongoing. So far a few villages have been cleared of the Taliban. Also 88 Taliban fighters were killed and 78 others were wounded (in the operation).”
Musawi added the Qerghez, Gombaz and Ganjak villages in Imam Sahib district were cleared of the Taliban during the operation.
“We have eliminated Taliban’s strongholds, and are advancing in the area. Our operation is ongoing for the past one week,” Farhad, a soldier was quoted by TOLONews, as saying.
The operation comes amid at some concerns regarding Taliban’s training centers that have been located in Imam Sahib district.
Previously, government officials showed concern regarding militants training centers in the district.
However, the Taliban insurgents have not commented on the operation so far.
