KABUL: At least 38 militants have been confirmed dead over the past 24 hours as the Afghan security forces have launched operations against insurgent groups across the country, officials said Saturday.
The Ministry of Defense in a statement said the Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Farah, Badghis, Sar-e-Pul, Baghlan, Faryab and Helmand provinces, in which 38 militants killed and 25 others wounded.
The security forces also arrested two militants during operation, handing them over to judicial organs for further inquiry
The Afghan National Defense Security Forces shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and air forces.
14 Taliban fighters have been killed and 15 others wounded in Pashtoon Kot and Qaisar districts of Faryab, while 12 others killed, two suspects arrested, 14 strongholds with some ammunitions destroyed in Sangeen district of Helmand province, the statement added.
Similarly, six insurgents killed and nine others wounded in Sancharak district of Sar-e-Pul, and six other militants killed and nine others wounded in Laman area center of Badghis province.
In past 24 hours, four planed clearing operations, and 68 Special Forces operations conducted in different provinces; also, Air Forces conducted one aerial operations supporting Afghan National Army, including one strike on enemy’s sanctuaries.
ANA also discovered and confiscated weapons and ammunition belonging to the Taliban insurgents in that period.
