Kabul: Pakistan on Monday (November 21) reopened a border crossing with Afghanistan which was shut for trade and transit. The crossing was closed post clash between security forces last week. The border crossing is situated between Pakistani town of Chahman and Afghan district of Spin Boldak.
Abdul Hameed Zehri, Deputy Commissioner of Chahman said the southwestern crossing was reopened after dialogue between Pakistani and Afghan Taliban officials on Sunday. Zeri added that Thousands of people and hundreds of trucks that had been stranded on both sides were able to cross the border on Monday.
In yet another clash between Afghan Taliban fighters and the Pakistan Army on the Durand Line at least 16 people were killed and injured on Sunday night.
The clash has taken place in Kharlasi (Kharlachi) village, in the Dand-e-Patan area of Paktia province of Afghanistan.
Media reports in Pakistan have claimed that one Pakistani army soldier was killed and ten people including two Pakistani civilians, were injured. The casualties of the Taliban are five killed and several injured, according to local sources.
Sunday’s incident was the latest in a series of clashes between the Taliban and the Pakistan Army in recent days.
According to media reports, military forces from both sides of the border in the south-east of Afghanistan opened fire on each other over the ownership of the border village of Kharlachi.
