KABUL – A recently published book titled ‘The Reverse Swing – Colonialism to Cooperation’ by Ashok Tandon, former media advisor to late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has made claims about the alleged involvement of Pakistan’s military and intelligence agency, the ISI, in the illicit drug trade in Afghanistan. The book points to a close connection between the drug money generated in Pakistan and a notorious figure, Dawood Ibrahim.
Dawood Ibrahim, a notorious gangster, is alleged to be orchestrating the conversion of drugs that flow into Pakistan from Afghanistan into substantial sums of money. The book suggests that he employs a network of ‘mules’ and even containers to facilitate this operation, benefiting from the apparent immunity he enjoys within Pakistan.
According to Tandon, the drug trade mainly involves opium and heroin, entering Pakistan through various border regions where established drug networks continue to operate. This revelation is a part of the book’s chapter titled ‘Indian Black Money Tracked.’
In a surprising twist, Tandon also highlights the existence of a list of 5,000 dormant accounts in various banks, including Swiss banks, which was disclosed in July 1997. This list reportedly unveils the identities of descendants of Indian princely states and the trusts associated with their families. One such revelation is the joint account attributed to Princess Catherine Hilda Duleep Singh, which had remained untouched since the 1930s at UBS AG Bank in Berne.
This book’s claims have stirred up questions and concerns about the alleged involvement of Pakistan’s military and intelligence agency in the drug trade and the historical aspects of wealth management among Indian royal families and contemporary elites.
