Pakistan Claims TTP Launched 22 Attacks from Afghanistan in Two Weeks

KABUL – Pakistan has accused the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) of carrying out 22 attacks from Afghan soil between June 16 and June 30, 2024, escalating tensions between the two neighbors over cross-border militancy.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally raised the issue with the Taliban Embassy in Islamabad, providing a list of the attacks and urging Afghan authorities to prevent further incursions. The letter, sent on July 24, details strikes in North and South Waziristan, Khyber, Kurram, Bannu, Orakzai, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, and Bajaur.

According to Pakistani officials, the attackers are linked to militant leaders Hakimullah Mehsud, Hafiz Gul Bahadur, and Alam Khan, who are allegedly based in Afghanistan’s Paktika, Khost, and Nangarhar provinces. Islamabad has long accused the Taliban of harboring TTP fighters, a claim Kabul denies.

In response, the Taliban have accused Pakistan of violating Afghan airspace, particularly in Paktika, where recent airstrikes reportedly killed over 45 people, including women and children.

Militant attacks in Pakistan have surged in recent months, targeting both security personnel and civilians. The latest cross-border violence has heightened regional security concerns, with analysts warning that continued hostilities could further destabilize the area.

Despite diplomatic exchanges, tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan remain high, with both sides urging stronger border security measures. Experts say resolving the issue will require closer cooperation between the two governments to prevent further escalation.
