‘Pakistan deceived Afghan peace processes’

AT-KABUL: The high peace council claims that Taliban’s recent response to the peace voiced by the government was a new Pakistan game.

The council said that Tuesday’s bloody attacks in the wake of the Oman quadrilateral meeting was a game by Islamabad to say that it had no links to the Taliban.

Deputy head of the council, Hajji Din Mohammad told the Radio Liberty that he was not confident if Pakistan was honestly cooperating with the government’s peace process with the Taliban militants.

“Pakistan is under huge pressure, so it tries to pretend that it has not influence on the Taliban and the group carries out attacks independently,” Mohammad said.

He added that the experiences in the past prove that Islamabad was not honestly cooperating with the peace voice in Afghanistan.

He however, said that the doors to peace should be kept open by any mean.

The government was hopeful that Pakistan would cooperate with the peace process this time, but just after one day of the Oman meeting, Taliban launched a string of attacks in the provinces of Paktia, Ghazni, Farah and Wardak, killing at least 70 people and injuring hundreds more.

Also in the capital Kabul, unknown persons threw hand grenades to a police checkpoint in the downtown, in which, a civilian was killed and three more including two officers were wounded.

Analysts said that Taliban with the attacks tried to be recognized as a part of the power.

“Taliban’s representatives were not called in the Oman meeting, so they showed that they were powerful and such meetings could not change their policy,” said Bashir Hatef, a political analyst.

Taliban was not invited to the Oman meeting and it rejected sending representative there.

Foreign ministry announced that fulfilling of Pakistan’s commitments were focused in Oman meeting and the participant countries promised they would take practical measures for the help of the Afghan peace process.
