Pakistan is not acting against Haqqani network: Zakhilwal

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Afghan Ambassador to Islamabad Hazrat Omar Zakhhilwal said that Pakistan has not taken steps against the Haqqani terrorist network, as it claims. The network carries out destructive activities in Afghanistan.

Unfulfilled commitment by Pakistan is one of the major reasons behind increasing tensions in relations between two neighboring countries, Zakhilwal said in an interview with the Radio Mashal.

He said that Pakistani forces had carried out operations titled ”Zarb-e-Azab” in North Waziristan, but nobody of the Haqqani network was harmed in the area.

“But Afghan forces have gunned down several officials of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Afghanistan,” he added.

He said that current tensions are high between Pakistan and Afghanistan, both Kabul and Islamabad are complaining of each other.

He insisted that the two countries should work for the solution of the issues.

Although, if relations are gloomy between Islamabad and Kabul, but both nations are trying to be friendly, he noted.

He said that compulsory of visa for visitors in Torkham and harassment of Afghan refugees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will create rifts among both nations.

Afghanistan is an independent country and defend from its library at any cost, Afghanistan willing to have good relation with India as well as with Pakistan, he mentioned.

Ambassador said that Afghanistan never can accept Pakistan demand that asking stop friendship with India and only continue relation with Pakistan.

Such demand by Pakistan is insulting to independency of Afghanistan, he underlined.

Afghan government often complained about Pakistan double games and dishonesty in Afghan-led peace process as well as in anti-terrorism war in the region. Dishonesty of Pakistan was one of the main factors behind increasing of tension between Kabul and Islamabad.

The Haqqani network is believed to be based in the Pakistani lawless areas, running big training centers. The network is an active partner of the Taliban group, being known as the military wing of the group. But the network mostly operates independently.

The network was formed by the Haqqani family in the framework of the Taliban group in the mid-1990s. A former jihadi commander of the Harakat-e-Inqilab-e-Islami party Jalaluddin Haqqani was the first leader of the network. Now it is run by his sons Sirajuddin Haqqani and Badruddin Haqqani who are key figures of the Taliban group as well.

The network mostly targets the security forces with suicide attacks, roadside bombs and attacking checkpoints along the highways.
