AT-PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) urged the Pakistan government to deliver on its pledges regarding restoration of peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Senior leaders of the ANP said this on the third death anniversary of slain senior minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour in Peshawar.
Urging Pakistan for joint efforts to ensure restoration of peace in Afghanistan, Afrasiab Khattak said that Islamabad must honor its commitments to peace and stability in the neighboring country.
He said that Pashtuns were forced into violence and extremism, adding that Pashtuns had nothing to do with militancy as they are peace-loving nation. Khattak said that peace in Afghanistan was imperative for stability of Pakistan.
The former provincial information minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that objectives of the National Action Plan, which was drafted after terror attack on Army Public School in Peshawar to end terrorism, would not be achieved unless Pakistan puts an end to the concept of “good Taliban” and “bad Taliban”. He said the action plan was not implemented properly.
The ex-chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, warned that situation would get out of the government’s control if military operations were not launched against insurgents in Swat and other areas of Malakand division.
Hoti said that honest cooperation with Afghanistan was necessary to get rid of terrorism in the region. He furthered that if joint efforts against terrorist groups were not initiated on time then the region could plunge into more serious crisis.
The party leaders asked the Pakistan government for indiscriminate action against all militant groups in order to ensure peace and stability in the South Asia region.
In a resolution, the ANP said that military operation against terrorist groups should not be confined to Waziristan or other tribal agencies, but the operations should be extended to Punjab province as well where insurgent groups are breeding and enjoy support.
It is pertinent to mention that Tashfeen Malik, a resident of Punjab, was involved in the massacre of 14 people at a holiday party in California. She pledged her allegiance to Daesh in a Facebook post. Her husband Rizwan Farook was also supporter of the global terrorist group. In the attack carried out my Tashfeen Malik and her husband also left 21 people injured. She was educated in a seminary run by a religious political party which also exports insurgency and extremism to Afghanistan and India.
