Pakistan, NATO conducted joint operations inside Afghanistan: Pak minister

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, has said that Pakistan’s military troops and NATO forces have carried out joint military operations inside Afghanistan.

Nisar in an interview with Iran’s Fars News Agency (FNA) said the other day that relations between Kabul and Islamabad have never been as cordial as currently. “In the aftermath of Peshawar school carnage, NATO conducted joint operations with Pakistani troops inside Afghanistan, which led to killing of six to seven militants,” he added.

He said that the offensives were conducted in collaboration with the Afghan government, therefore the details are confidential.

The interior minister termed the coordination between the two countries in war on terrorism as proverbial, saying, “it was the first time that Afghanistan seriously cooperated in war on terror.”  He added that the two countries have managed to put aside their differences and build up trust.

Nisar said that political and military leaders of the two countries have maintained their relations and are making concerted efforts in subduing terrorism.

He added that Pakistan tries to ramp up security along Durand Line because this issue is of great importance for Afghanistan and Pakistan. He said that Kabul and Islamabad have agreed to further their efforts to monitor those traveling across the Durand Line, and recognize suspected terrorists.

He said that Pakistan shares long border with Afghanistan which makes it difficult to bar militant infiltration, but despite the problems, Pakistan’s security forces were ready to maintain security in the areas.

He added that leaders of the two countries should pay attention to the issue that maintaining friendly relations is important.

“Following the Peshawar attack, the government of Afghanistan was given substantial information by the Pakistan’s military, and luckily Kabul immediately acted in this regard which is a very good attempt,” he added.

Nisar said that the recent visit of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani was vital in expansion of Kabul-Islamabad ties, and the trip of political leaders in Pakistan including Asfandyar Wali Khan, Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao to Kabul where they also called on Afghanistan’s former President Hamid Karzai.
