KABUL: After visiting Kabul on Thursday, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pakistan Foreign Minister, pledged Islamabad’s support to help revive the ailing economy in Afghanistan.
He said Pakistan was intent to support the new government in Afghanistan. “So that their financial and economic situation gets improved, we have taken steps in this regard which helps them,” said Qureshi.
He made a one-day visit to Kabul on Thursday and discussed bilateral interests with officials of the Islamic Emirate.
Qureshi has also announced that his country will provide five billion Pakistani rupees in aid to Afghanistan to support its fragile economy.
“Pakistan will provide nearly $28 million in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan,” he added.
Meanwhile, officials of the Islamic Emirate stated that Qureshi’s visit was positive economically and politically, and said that he has invited members of the Islamic Emirate to have an official visit to Pakistan.
“Talks were held on different political, trade and transit topics, especially on the closure of the crossings between the two countries. The Pakistani delegation has promised that they will keep all the crossings open,” said Anaamullah Samangani, spokesman of the Islamic Emirate.
