KABUL – Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan saw a remarkable surge of 92% during the first half of the current fiscal year, reaching $504 million, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
The SBP report revealed that exports to Afghanistan totaled $504.3 million during the July-December period of the 2024-25 fiscal year, compared to $262.6 million during the same period in 2023-24. This substantial growth highlights strengthening trade ties between the two neighboring countries.
Pakistan’s overall exports to other nations also registered a 7% rise during the first six months of the fiscal year, increasing from $15.1 billion to $16.2 billion, as per the SBP’s data.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s exports to Pakistan also saw an increase, though on a smaller scale. Afghan exports to Pakistan reached $9.9 million in the first half of the fiscal year, nearly doubling from $4.4 million during the corresponding period last year.
On a year-on-year basis, Pakistan’s imports from Afghanistan rose by 18%, reaching $1.47 million in December 2024, up from $1.24 million in December 2023. Month-on-month data also showed an 8.27% increase in imports, rising from $1.35 million in November 2024 to $1.47 million in December 2024.
The sharp increase in Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan underscores growing economic engagement between the two countries despite broader geopolitical and economic challenges. Analysts suggest that improved trade policies, ease of cross-border transactions, and stability in trade routes have contributed to this surge.
