AT News Report-KABUL: Parents of the Afghan-Turk school students took out to the streets on Saturday to protest the government’s decision over banning the schools’ activity. Foreign ministry officially asked the economy ministry to ban activities of the schools.
Earlier, security forces in a raid to one of the schools in Kabul arrested two teachers who are still under custody. The students’ parents in a statement criticized the arrest as illegal, demanding for their immediate release.
“The government’s move to ban the Afghan-Turk school is absolutely illegal because only an authorized judiciary organ can do this. We will stand against this decision and will not allow anyone to enter the schools,” the statement said.
The school with branches in about 50 countries is managed by Fathullah Gulen, a Turk-American opposition of the Turkish government. The school has branches in eight provinces in Afghanistan in which some 8,000 boys and girls are studying.
Turkish President asked Afghanistan to ban the school after the failed 2016 coup de taut that was blamed to Gulen.
“They (the government) are breaking the law and trample students’ rights of education. Their move is against the guests who are serving our children for 23 years,” said lawyer Abdul Shakoor Dadras.
The education ministry assured that no step would be taken to harm education system.
