Parliament denounces Pakistan for Torkham raid

By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: The Wolesi Jirga (Lower House) of the parliament condemned Pakistan’s paramilitary invasion in the Torkham de-facto line, asking the government to refer the issue to International community.

Clashes began Sunday after Afghan troops opposed Pakistan’s fencing at the zero point, alleging it was inside Afghan soil.

Three Afghan border police and two children were martyred and 17 border police were wounded. Pakistani forces also sustain casualties.

The parliament condemned the attack, calling Pakistan’s raid and fencing against mutual historical agreement.

“Pakistan failed to respect neighboring and brotherhood relegation by following complicated policy,” the legislators said in a statement.

They also called on Afghan government to take a clear measure in defending national interest. The parliament asked the international community to support Afghan forces according to the strategic pacts signed in the aspect.

Lawmaker Wadood Paiman predicted Pakistan’s failure in the war, saying that Afghans had fought the Soviet Union with empty hands, so now Afghan forces are well experienced and equipped and have better capability to fight Pakistan.

Another lawmaker Sayed Nader Shah Bahr asked the government to complain to International community regarding cross de-facto line about Pakistan military and struggle to end the issue for Afghan interest.

Another Member of Parliament Abdul Sattar Khawasi said that Durand Line is a de-facto line, being never recognized by Afghanistan, thus Pakistan struggled to make institution in Afghanistan soil which is against international norms.

He also criticized the US for being viewer, saying that it is required of US forces to support Afghan forces as mentioned in the strategic agreement that if Afghanistan attacked by other country US will defend from Afghanistan.

He asked the government to stop entreaty politic and take serious step regarding Torkham incident.

It is pertained to mention that thousands of civilians from Kunar, Nangarhar, Laghman, Paktia and some other provinces went to Torkham to stand beside Afghan forces in defending Afghan territory
