KABUL: The fact-finding members of the parliament accused the Afghanistan embassy in Washington of forging discrepancy in the building of a wall for the embassy.
The investigative team revealed that Afghanistan’s embassy wall in Washington could cost 300,000 US dollars but the embassy has spent 1.5 million. The delegation said with such an amount of money even the embassy could have bought a house in the US.
Head of the delegation, MP Javid Safai said that the embassy didn’t coordinate with the national procurement.
“This wall was built with an expense of 1.586 million dollars and the contract was made via phone call between the ambassador and a private company,” he added. “We have checked the prices and talked with the companies, the cost should have been from 200,000 to 300,000 dollars.”
The wall is built with common constructive materials, according to him.
But previously, the Afghanistan embassy in Washington denied its involvement in corruption.
The parliament then introduced President Ashraf Ghani’s financial advisor and ambassador of Afghanistan in Washington Roya Rahmani to the Attorney General Office.
According to reports, the Afghanistan embassy denied the offer of 88,000 dollars given by a company and instead signed a contract with 1.825 million dollar cost with another company.
