KABUL: A parliamentary candidate accused of fraud has been arrested by police while trying to flee the country in the northern Balkh province, said the ministry of interior affairs.
The ministry of interior said in a statement that a parliamentary candidate who was given five years of jail on charge of fraud by court, arrested by the national counter-criminal task forces of Balkh.
The statement further added that the convict was attempting to flee country via Hairatan port but was identified and arrested by police forces tasked with controlling the port.
The ministry of interior also added that he was resident of southern Paktia province and ran for last October’s legislative polls.
