KABUL: The death toll of a fatal flood in the central province of Parwan has jumped to 129 people, authorities said Friday. But there is still unclear information about the people stuck under the ruins of the floods as the searching teams are trying to find those who are under braise.
Meanwhile, local residents voiced criticisms on the government for not paying attention to the situation in the province. The residents said that they lacked facilities and food materials and were in a very critical condition during the past four days.
The US special envoy for Afghanistan reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad urged the government and non-government organizations to provide humanitarian aid and donations for the flood affected people.
“For our part, USAID Saves Lives (working with IOM Afghanistan, UNICEF Afghanistan and WFP Asian Pacific and Resolute Support are distributing food assistance, hygiene kits, water containers, blankets and other critical relief supplies,” Khalilzad said in a tweet.
With the death toll of the flood getting top, citizens across the country staged sieges to assist the victims of the floods.
A number of youths started an assistive campaign on streets of Kabul to help the flood affected people.
The statistics of the ministry of state for natural disaster shows that totally 160 people died in the floods in 13 provinces of the country. According to the statistics, 250 people were wounded in the floods.
Last week, fatal floods flowed in Parwan, Kapisa, Kabul, Panjshier, Wardak, Paktia, Paktika, Logar, Nuristan, Nangarhar, Laghman, Khost and Ghazni provinces, leaving tens of people death and wounded and also inflicted financial damages to the residents.
