KABUL: Passport offices have reopened in seven provinces of the country to issue passports to citizens, in a move by the Taliban to ease passport services amid hectic rush in Kabul passport office.
Passport offices have resumed operations in Herat, Kandahar, Kunduz, Balkh, Nangarhar, Khost and Paktia provinces on Sunday, said Alam Gul Haqqani, head of the passport department.
“The passport departments in seven provinces have been ordered to resume operations,” he told media in Kabul on Saturday.
This is as thousands from across Afghanistan have been coming to Kabul for passports, which has created havoc.
According to passport department, over 100,000 passports have been issued to citizens over the past month, creating revenue of 500 million Afs.
Passport department issues 3,000 passports every day for applicants and another 150 passports to patients needing to travel for medical reasons, Haqqani said.
He added that over 100,000 passports have been issued and more than 500 million Afs have been made in revenue.
