AT News Report-KABUL: Afghanistan’s top peace council has declared that the Taliban may be open to intra-Afghan peace dialogue. A senior member of the high peace council told the Parliament on Saturday that the council was cautiously optimistic about a highly likely consent of the Taliban to enter peace talks with the Afghan government.
The session only entailed presentation of information by the peace council officials as lawmakers didn’t pose any questions. Peace council’s Secretariat Chief AkramKhpulwak told lawmakers that increasing pressure on the insurgents coupled with domestic and foreign support will finally drive the Taliban to accede to peace talks. “We have authentic information that the Taliban leadership is discussing the peace offer and we are hopeful it will culminate into something good,” he said.
He also informed that religious scholars from across the world will gather soon to discuss peace and proclaim war imposed by insurgents as illegal. Religious scholars from across the world, at an organizational and union level, will announce that no war is legal against Afghanistan (government),” Khpulwak added.
