AT-KABUL: Afghanistan’s top peace authority has called on tribal leaders and a nationwide struggle to achieve a durable peace and alleviate the burden placed on the people.
Head of the High Peace Council, Mohammad Karim Khalili said on Tuesday that if all Afghans get united, they can rescue country from the current crisis and solve problems.
In a meeting with tribal elders and members of Kabul provincial council said that peace is a serious need. “We all should make efforts for a lasting peace. Tribal elders, influential figures, jihadi commanders and everyone should join hands to save the country from the war as we saved it from invasion,” he said.
He argued that efforts would not get fruit unless the peace process is not national, calling on the armed opposition groups to stop fighting “because the war is not resolve”.
Taliban in a letter to the US government, said the war would be over once the US troops leave Afghanistan.
The United Nations office in Afghanistan says it would make most efforts to help bring peace to Afghanistan.
A political analyst is not optimistic to the peace efforts, saying Taliban recognize the peace council as part of the government they are fighting with.
