KABUL: The Moderation and Equality team, led by presidential hopeful Zalmai Rasoul says it fully supports the ongoing efforts in bringing peace after nearly a two-decade war, emphasizing that it should be an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned process.
The team said Wednesday in a statement that Rasoul and his running mates were not only looking to win the elections and lead the country for the next five years, but they feel the need of an urgent peace in Afghanistan and make efforts for that.
The Moderation and Equality team added that the people of Afghanistan were burning in the flames of war for several years. “They are surely impatiently waiting for peace and stability in their home, but they will trust a long-lasting peace when the process is led by Afghans and is a national process,” it said.
“The more Afghans’ role is considered, the more peace gets more national and Afghan people feel an important national achievement and will guard a sustainable peace,” it concluded.
