AT-KABUL: US Vice President Mike Pence has called President Ashraf Ghani, where he congratulated him over conducting a successful Wolesi Jirga elections that majority of Afghans casted their votes, disregarding the Taliban threat, and also condemned assassination of Gen. Raziq.
“He (Pence) congratulated the Afghan people on the steady advance of democracy following the parliamentary elections this past weekend,” the White House said in a read-out of the call.
“Despite efforts by the Taliban to intimidate the Afghans, millions of people stepped forward to make their voice heard by voting,” the statement added.
In a statement, Presidential Palace said that Pence congratulated President Ghani, the nation and security forces for successfully conducting the parliamentary election.
Pence also expressed his condolence on assassination of General Raziq, General Momin as well as other civilian casualties during the Election Day.
