KABUL: Peshawar has hosted a two-day long the Afghan-Pakistan cultural show in order to promote the commonalities in culture of the two countries, an organizer said.
The two-day event was held at Nishtar Hall in capital city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to celebrate the Afghanistan Cultural Day. The event will conclude today (Sunday), a statement from Pak-Afghan People’s Forum said.
People from all walks of life including culturists thronged the event. Most of the visitors were from different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). However, culture lover from Quetta, Karachi, Islamabad, Afghanistan, Germany and Canada also attended the event.
The rich Pakhtun culture is 5,000 years old, said Awami National Party (ANP) General Secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain, stressing that militancy damaged the Pakhtun culture.
He further said that despite killing innocent people, militants had destroyed hundreds of school and health centers. “They even don’t show mercy to women.”
The region was a home to Gandhara civilization for centuries, said Prof Fidaullah Sehrai.
He further said the rich cultural heritage in the region is a manifestation of its strategic importance and history.
Protecting and promoting regional culture would save our national identity, he opined.
Jewelry, books, dresses, and twenty-five stalls of traditional food were seen as main point of visitor’s attraction.
