AT-KABUL: The Afghan security personnel had foiled a plot to attack the house of the acting National Directorate of Security (NDS) chief Massoud Andarabi, the NDS said in a media statement on Friday.
An attacker was shot dead on Friday afternoon before he could enter the house of the NDS chief in the Shashdark locality of Kabul, the statement said.
“The NDS personnel has identified the attacker and shot him to death,” the statement added.
The attack on the NDS head is taking place at a time when the US embassy in Kabul issued a security alert to its citizen in Afghanistan.
The embassy warned of possible attack to be carried by the militant factions in Kabul city during Nowruz celebrations.
Nowruz marks the first day of the Persian New Year that has been celebrated for more than 3,000 years. Traditional flag hoisting ceremony in the capital Kabul and other parts of the country is normally what the Afghan masses are performing to celebrate Nowruz festival.
The festival of Nowruz is celebrated in Afghanistan, Iran, India, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
