KABUL: Shharifullah Khosti, commander of police special forces was killed in clashes with Taliban in the northern province of Baghlan, provincial officials confirmed.
Javid Basharat, provincial police spokesman said Friday that the police special forces confronted with Taliban fighters late Thursday in the outskirts of provincial capital Pol-e-Khomri on the road to Baghlan-e-Markazi district.
Khosti was killed and two of his bodyguards injured, according to Basharat, who said that Taliban militants also suffered casualties but did not provide exact number.
The high council for national reconciliation regretted the death of Khosti. “The continued war and bloodshed has no result except the continuation of people’s pain and destruction of the country,” the council said in a statement on Friday. “Attacks and criminal killings will more complicate the situation.”
Separately, seven people were injured when Taliban fighters ambushed the convoy of Ghor governor. According to reports, Taliban took two vehicles of the governor’s convoy.
A video journalist who was accompanying governor Zaher Faizzada is among those wounded.
In Ghor’s neighboring province of Herat, seven passengers were wounded when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb, provincial officials said.
Officials said that the incident early Friday in the Koshk-e-Kohna district. All the injured were women, according to officials who blamed the attack on Taliban fighters.
