KABUL: The police chief for the PD 17 of Ferozkoh, the capital city of the western Ghor province lost his life alongside his bodyguard in a roadside bomb blast, officials said on Tuesday.
Provincial Governor’s spokesman, Arif Karimi said that the incident occurred on Tuesday morning in Kandiwal village of Ferozkoh. Security forces were on their way to eliminate a Taliban’s checkpoint in the area while their vehicle hit a roadside mine, he said, adding that three others were wounded.
The Taliban are yet to comment.
Ghor is among the insecure provinces in west of Afghanistan, where the security forces often suffer heavy casualties in security incidents carried out by the Taliban.
The offensive has been surging countrywide as the international forces are preparing to exit Afghanistan. The U.S. and NATO forces top commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Scott Miller said that the insurgents has been trying to ramp up violence. The national security adviser, Hamdullah Mohib told the CBS news that Afghanistan preferred the U.S. to remain for few more years as the circumstances are not perfect now.
