Kandahar pomegranate yields saw a considerable increase this year as 150,000 tons have been produced in the southern volatile province.
Kandahar pomegranate products increased significantly as well as its quality become better this year as compared to last year, said a press statement issued by Ministry of Agriculture Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL).
According to statement Kandahar Agriculture Head Sayed Hafizullah Sayedi said thatKandahar pomegranate gardens produced 150,000 tons pomegranate, where last year pomegranate products reached to 125,000 tons.
He stated that till now over 26,000 of Kandahar pomegranate exported to abroad and the most purchaser of Kandahar high quality pomegranate is Pakistan United Arab Emirates (UAE) and India.
Over 8000 hectares new pomegranate gardens have been established by gardeners with the support of MAIL this year in Kandahar, he added.
He stated that currently over 10,000 gardens are producing pomegranate in Kandahar province.
MAIL at the objective to foster pomegranate gardens in Kandahar has established pomegranate garden in 2500 acres land in Kandahar this year, he mentioned.
He said that training of gardeners and controlling of disease by MAIL are other step toward encouragement of gardeners for establishing pomegranate in Kandahar.
Kandahar pomegranate is a well-known pomegranate in the world.
